Creating an OASIS for Perineal Healing- Virtual Edition

Immediate care for perineal trauma

Advocate for Healing

Starting Day One Post Birth

Direct referral to urogynecology and pelvic therapy can provide insight and education that have significant and immediate impact on postpartum health and the wellbeing of the woman who sustains an obstetric anal sphincter injury. Mom and baby are seen by multiple providers in the first 6 weeks, but who is advocating for the Mother?

All PTs, OTs, doulas, birth workers, lactation consultants, women's movement specialists, bodyworkers, pediatric providers can swiftly facilitate care for the Mother who may have experienced a traumatic birth and perineal trauma starting day 1.

BEFORE 6 WEEKS

Why are we waiting?

Baby is seen by an average of 6-8 visits by different providers in the first 6 weeks of birth. During this time, the partnership of mom and baby can be challenged by perineal trauma. For example, difficulty with breastfeeding can be limited by the mom's inability to sit comfortably due to pain from perineal healing. But who is considering the mother's pelvic health during a lactation consultation? Can all postpartum providers advocate for Mom's care to create better outcomes for the partnership of Mom and Baby?

Yes. We are changing postpartum care in South Jersey starting now.

Course Description

Direct referral to urogynecology and pelvic therapy can provide insight and education that have significant and immediate impact on postpartum health and the wellbeing of the woman who sustains an obstetric anal sphincter injury. Appropriate functional impact assessment of OASI, soft tissue management management and early self care intervention can have long term impact on pelvic floor function.

Like a deluge of rain in the desert, this swift response facilitates growth and renewal of the landscape.

The same can be said for, immediate facilitation of care for the Mom who endured a traumatic birth. You can create safety, growth and enhanced healing in the mind-body-soul, even moving through the mother to the whole family unit.

To Create an OASIS for Healing, we will:

Observe: Listen to her story. They will share an abundance of information without even knowing it. Your listening has already started the healing process.

Assess: Each day is doing to be different, especially in the first 6 weeks. Addressing safety of mobility and ease of motility

Secure: The sudden shift in hormones and collagen challenges the physiology of muscles, ligaments and tendons. We must secure the physiology by addressing edema management and tissue support

Instruct: With any injury, the ease of each task will change. From things like sleeping, moving up and down from the couch and wound management is important to set up for success.

Support: Momma needs to be seen! Whether clinicians know it or not. And I am not just talking about a quick 7.5 min postpartum evaluation. To be seen is to show support for the Momma from a multidisciplinary team

Testimonials

-C

Coming in to see Dr. Becca is one of the highlights of my month! She is so attentive, interactive, informative, supportive, helpful & an all-around wonderful person! I can't say enough positive things about my experience at Breathe Life - the atmosphere puts you at ease as soon as you walk in the door, the appointments begin and end within their time frame. I'm so happy to have found this practice and constantly rave about it to everyone I know!

-M

I was referred to Dr Amanda after the birth of my second child and suffering from a terribly slow postpartum recovery. I was diagnosed with diastasis recti and pelvic floor issues which have caused a number of TMI issues in addition to horrendous back pain. With the first appointment I noticed a dramatic difference in the size of my abdomen which has refused to deflate after my birth. I know I have a long road to recovery but I have so much confidence in the knowledge and care provided that for the first time in nearly a year, I've regained hope that I don't have to live like this forever!

-S

I “pushed” physiologically, never forced it and just breathed deep into an exhale when my body said to. My last sesh with Dr Becca really helped me connect the dots in order to do that! Just wanted to say THANKS  y’all are doing a good work for us first time moms
